Itinerary

Day 1 : Airport - Dambulla Srilanka Ramayana Tour

Arrive at Colombo International Airport For the Srilanka Ramayana tour. You will be met a designated chauffer guide from Esna Holidays. After the formalities at the airport, you will be escorted to your air-conditioned vehicle and proceed to Trincomalee via Chilaw.

En-route visits the Munneshwaram Temple in Chilaw.

It is believed that Munneshwaram predates the Ramayana and a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva was located here. Munneshwaram means the first temple for Shiva (Munnu + Eswaran). A Shiva Lingam was already here when Lord Rama visited this place. Lord Rama after his victorious battle left for Ayodhya with Sitha in one of King Ravana’s Vimanas. He felt he was being followed by a Bramhaasthi Dosham (a malevolent black shadow) as he had killed King Ravana who was a Brahmin

Thereafter, proceed to Manawari Temple.

Manawari Temple -When the Vimana was passing over Munneshwaram, he felt the Vimana vibrating, and realized the Brahmaasti Dosham was not following him at this particular point. He stopped the Vimana at this juncture and asked god Lord Shiva for advice. Lord Shiva blessed Lord Rama and advised installing and praying at four lingams located at Manawari, Thiru Koneshwaram, Thiru Ketheshwaram, and Rameswaram in India as the only remedy to get rid of the dosham. The first lingam was installed at Manawari about 5km from here, near the banks of the Deduru Oya.

Day 2 : Dambulla - Trincomalee

After breakfast at the hotel, check out the hotel and proceed to Dambulla. Before leaving the Trincomalee visit to the Kaneswaran Temple & Shankar Temple.

Koneswaram is a classical-medieval Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in Trincomalee, Eastern Sri Lanka. The temple is situated atop Konesar Malai, a promontory that overlooks the Indian Ocean, the nearby eastern coast (the Trincomalee District), as well as Trincomalee Harbor or Gokarna Bay. Being a major place for Hindu pilgrimage, it was labeled “Rome of the Gentiles/Pagans of the Orient” in some records.

Konesvaram holds a significant role in the religious and cultural history of Sri Lanka, as it was likely built during the reign of the early Cholas and the Five Dravidians of the Early Pandyan Kingdom.

Thereafter, visit the Hot Water Spring and the Lakshmi Narayana Perumal Kovil.

The Kinniya Hot Springs is a site with hot wells located in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka. There are seven wells in a square shape. Wells are only 3–4 feet deep and you can clearly see the bottom. The temperature is considerably high but varies slightly from one spring to another.

The Lakshmi Narayana Perumal Kovil is purely dedicated to the supreme deity Vishnu and his consort Lakshmi and has been constructed by R Radhakrishnan and his family as recent as 2011. The Kovil is an exact replica of a South Indian temple and has been made with the workmanship of craftsmen brought down, especially from India. On completion, check in to Trincomalee hotel and relax.

Day 3 : Trincomalee - Kandy

After breakfast, check out and proceed to Kandy.

On arrival check in to the hotel Kandy Hotel.

Later in the evening visit the Kandy Temple of the Tooth Relic.

Visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic.

Temple of the Tooth Relic – The Temple of the Sacred Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa) was originally built by the Kandyan Kings in 1595, to house and honor the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha. Attracting crowds of white-clad pilgrims bearing lotus flowers as means of worship, the Maligawa features a myriad of intricate carvings that speak volumes of the architectural values of Kandy.

On completion, return to the hotel and relax.

Day 4 : Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, check out the hotel and proceed to Nuwara Eliya.

En route visits Sri Bakhtha Hanuman Temple.

Sri Bhakta Hanuman Temple – According to the legend, this is where Hanuman searched for Sita in the jungles above and behind the temple. There is also said to be a pond – the ‘Sita Tear Pond’ – here, which was formed from Sita’s tears.  It is believed that Lord Hanuman was searching for Sitadevi from these hills of Ramboda. The Ramboda area is believed to be an area where Rama’s forces were gathered against Ravana.

Thereafter, visit the most important Ramayana legend sites called Sita Amman Temple & Ashoka Vatika (Ashoka vanam).

The Sita Amman Temple can be seen en route to the Hakgala Botanical Gardens. The prominent temple architecture will not fail to attract your attention. Ancient statues of Rama and Sita can be seen on one side of the temple. The temple today is a modern building with its paintings, statues, and pillars decorated with sculptures; all depicting the tale of Rama and Sita.

On completion, visit the Gayathri Peedam.

Gayathri Peedam is believed to be the place from where King Ravana’s son Meghanath propitiated Lord Shiva with penance and pooja’s and in turn, was granted supernatural powers by Lord Shiva. The Gayathri Cathedral also known as Sri-Lanka Theeswarar Temple which he built is situated in an area fondly identified as Sri-Nagar which means the Metropolis of Prosperity. On completion, check in to Nuwara Eliya hotel and relax.

Day 5 : Nuwara Eliya - Yala

Today after breakfast, check out the hotel and proceed to Kataragama.

En-route visit the Divurumpola Temple and Ravana falls.

Still revered by thousands, this holy haven was the place where Sita performed her Agni Pariksha (proving her chastity) to her husband Rama. Continuing the practice for thousands of years, villagers still pledge their fidelity or take oaths there and even in certain courts, this agreement was binding. This place has been respected and worshipped by people down the ages.

The rocky undergoes of the waterfall is Khondalite, a kind of limestone that undergoes faster decay than hard gneiss or granite. This has resulted in many caves being formed near the falls. King Ravana is said to have lived in one of the caves above the waterfall. A nearby pool bored out of the rock by the gushing waters is where Sita is said to have bathed Ravana.

Thereafter, visit the Kataragama Temple.

Kataragama Temple stands on ground that has been considered hallowed for around 2,500 years. The temple complex is dedicated to the Buddhist guardian deity Kataragama devil and Hindu War God Murugan. The site ranks among the few revered by a multitude of religions, including Buddhists, Hindus, Moors, and Veddas. Tour the collection of humble stone shrines, which remain as originally constructed.

On completion, check in to the Yala hotel and relax.

Day 6 : Yala - Colombo

After Breakfast, check out of the hotel and proceed to Colombo.

On arrival visit the first Sri Anjaneyar Temple in Sri Lanka.

The temple is one of the historic sites in Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia. Sri Anjaneyar worship dawned in Sri Lanka by ChandrasekaranSwamiji. It is a new era for Anjaneyar devotees. Anjaneyar worship increased in Sri Lanka. Another specialty of this temple is that you will find the Navagraha in a straight line which is very rare.

Thereafter, visit the Vibhishana Temple.

Kelaniya is a Buddhist sanctuary because it is visited by the Lord Buddha. On the temple premises, there is a Hindu shrine too. it was dedicated to Lord Vibhishana.

Thereafter, commence the Colombo city and Shopping tour.
