Ravana offered his ten heads one after another to Shiva as a tribute. Delighted with this, Shiva descended to this place to cure Ravana. As Lord Shiva portrayed himself as a doctor, he is introduced as Vaidya, which means doctor. From this perspective of Lord Shiva, the temple procures its name.
